    Express yourself.

From re-covered old favorites to custom creations

  • You're so much more than ordinary. So why surround yourself with ordinary things?

We are artists and artisans specializing in bespoke curtains, window treatments, furnishings, and upholstery. Trained in traditional European techniques, with backgrounds in theatre costume arts, cross-disciplinary sculpture, process art and textile/fiber work, we're adept at classic styles and we adore the fun and funky.

Custom furnishings are perfectly imperfect, the way only handmade things can be. So embrace your extraordinary. What can we create for you?

  • Bespoke comfort.

  • We’ve outfitted actors with heels, bustles and panniers, so we understand that sometimes beauty means sacrifice. But when it comes to home furnishings, couture means comfort.

Custom window treatments cut down on glare, shape your space and control interior temperatures for an environment that is comfortable and attractive. And convenient — Did we mention that we can motorize and automate your window treatments, so that you never need to lift a finger?

So, sit down and relax. Our sofas and chairs can be custom fit to your proportions. And artisan re-upholstery means no one has to sit in the lumpy spot.

  • Beauty Made to Last

Artisan-quality curtain and upholstery cost more than machine-made pieces. We believe they should last longer too.

  • Handmade drapery and furnishings are designed and fabricated to last. Though we are artists, we are also engineers: Our background in theatre arts means that we are very, very good at creating beautiful things that are meant to be handled, loved and used over and over again. You don’t live in a museum.* So don’t buy furnishings you’re afraid to touch.

*Though, if you did, we would be happy to help! We have created museum pieces for Berkeley Art Museum, the San Jose Museum of Art and SFMOMA. See our Art Upholstery
  • Our team at Joona worked hard to provide 10,000 free face shields to healthcare workers and first responders from Northern California fire departments to the Navajo nation and deep in Appalachia

    Community support made this happen!!

    • We didn't do this alone.
    • The technical support of our friends at m0xy studios in Oakland (see video at right) and Neal's CNC in Hayward was critical to this initiative.
    • Community financial support allowed us to purchase over $35,000 in materials and pay for our fabricators' services to cut over 10,000 shields.
    • Community volunteers helped build the shields and delivered them directly into the hands of doctors and first responders for distribution to their teams.

We distributed over 10,000 face shields to healthcare workers and first responders in the greater San Francisco Bay area as well as two hospitals in New York.

    Our Founder

Jeanne Henzel is an artist working primarily with textiles, paint, and other natural materials to produce art that lives with you, inviting touch and interaction.

Her aesthetic, attention to detail and high degree of technical skill drive the custom work that we produce. Though deeply grounded in traditional techniques, she does not shy away from integrating the technical into your project. From the automation of window treatments with motors and remotely accessible apps to adding subtle lighting effects to fine art furniture, if you can dream it - Joona Fabriculture can build it.

Jeanne trained as a sculptor and further developed her technical skills in theatrical costume shops. She is continually innovating and inventing solutions to the unique furnishing issues that challenge Joona's custom clientele. Why not let her solve a design issue that perplexes you today?
